Alhamdulillah, my plant cell cultures grow well and every 7-8 days, I have to subculture them..and imagine after subculturing, the number of flaks containing those cultures will increase and of course I need more MS medium.
Before this I've waited quite a long time for my chemicals to arrive (kalo diriku ini boleh berjanggut, janggut yang tumbuh tu boleh masuk balik..huhu) and when I made the order for the MS medium at that time, I didn't realized that I will need it quite a lot later.
We've ordered from Sigma....when I called the company after 3 days we sent the order (selalunya chemicals yg diorder dr Sigma akan sampai dalam 24 jam je), they told me that the MS media was out of stock and it will take couples of weeks to get the stock..mak aihh...
my cultures are growing fast in the lab and I don't have much time. I asked Chi Wai and Dr Will for the alternative and I got this company's name, Melford. I called them and they have the MS in stock and if I order, I can get it by the next day....wah....(gumbira)
the problem is I still have to wait for the finance dept to approve my order and this will take 2-3 days before thay can send my order to Melford. I think everywhere is the same, when it comes to finance, it will take a very time-consuming procedure...fuhhh.....
and actually my order just cost the school 12 pound. The MS costs about 5 pound (this is to prepare 5 litre of medium)...quite cheap. and I wonder why it takes so long to get the approval. As usual, my 'muka tembok' (di sini adalah sangat perlu untuk menjadi muka tembok dan muka tak segan..kalau tak, ssh nk survive) has to play role here. I went to see the finance people few times to get my order number but still they haven't got the approval yet...so many reasons behind it and it beyond their control....
it has been almost 10 days since Prof Ferda gave the finance dept our order form to get the approval and yet they still don't get the approval yet....and my 'babies' are growing and they need new place with fresh nutrient.
and last weekend, i used another alternative...haha..i ordered the MS media online using my own credit card. I don't mind spending money on chemicals for my research...(apalah sangat 5 pound tu kan kalo nak dibandingkan duit2 yang telah dibelanjakan utk gi jalan2...huhu).....
since last Monday was public holiday, my order has not been processed yet. Then yesterday, I receieved an email from Melford...kui3....

"Dear Miss Mohamad Puad,
Thank you for your website order.
I see that you have mentioned the University of Manchester as the user institution but have put what appears to be a private billing and shipping address.
It is normally our Company policy not to send goods to a private address.
However, as the University is a customer of Melford Laboratories, we will, on this occasion, send you the product as a "sample" free of charge."

kwang..kwang.alhamdulillah..rezeki....rezeki...i'm already willing to pay and now because of their company policy, I got the media for free. at first I wonder how much the 'sample' will be, then Steven said Melford will send the pack that I've ordered...wow...I thought they just give 1 litre since 'sample' is usually in small amount, rite....thank you..thank you..i understand why they don't send chemicals to private address...perhaps due to terrorism thingy...
and back at university today, I still have not received any news about my order (the finance ladies promised me to sort things out by today..hmm..)...Prof Ferda called another person in-charge (that's the problem..so many people involved) and the person found our order form under piles of papers....mashaAllah..no wonder the order still has not approved yet....(tak nak cakap byk2 dah..letih gue...)
they sorted out the approval and when I called them back later, they are trying to fax the order to Melford..and I have to call Melford tomorrow to ask whether they have received the order or not.....(letih lah nak kene speaking and memahami loghat2 english yang berbagai2 ni..lagi2 kalo dalam phone...puas memanjangkan gegendang telinga nak memahami apa yang diorag cakap..abis sume huruf2 ditelan...keskeskes...)
whatever it is, I'm very grateful to Melford especially Mr Steven Last for the 'sample' which is free of charge....muchas gracias......the pack has arrived today to my house....
and now I have quite enough medium for this week and next week and even to start my experiment (I need half of it for my experiment) before we can get our order from Melford as well as from Sigma. I guess I will have more than enough media if all my orders arrived...kui3...(apalah aku nk wat dengan media yg byk2 dlm lab ni..huhu).....
mula bekerja!!!!
